Early this year (2016), I noticed my eyes sight was weakening. I was seeing something like a splash of water, about the size of a pinto bean, covering my right eye. I could hardly read my Bible even with my glasses. Thankfully, I found this green smoothie for breakfast that has helped my eyes.
Allow me to share my experience with you before giving you the green smoothie recipe.
I told my acupuncturist about my weakening eye sight. He was not sure if the acupuncture would help me. He was concerned about it and he told me that my situation needed medical attention.
But in my mind, I really didn’t want to go back to see my ophthalmologist who I had seen several years ago. I didn’t want to go through letting him to prove my eyes again by sticking something in my eye sockets. Of course, he numbed my eyes first with eye drops. This thing was really invasive for me.
The ophthalmologist’s finding was that I didn’t have cataracts, glaucoma, or macular degeneration, which was very good news. But he said I have plenty of floaters. An optometrist had also told me previously that I had plenty of eye floaters.
But my acupuncturist was still willing to try to help me. He said that acupuncture can help the eyes by opening up the channels of energy.
After the acupuncture treatment, as I stepped out of the building, I could really see clearly — it seemed like I was seeing in a crystal glass. I still have the floaters but they are no longer bothersome and my vision is so clear. But 3 days after each acupuncture treatment, my vision weakens again.

Dr. Christianson Green Smoothie for Breakfast
I also have an adrenal fatigue. I have Dr. Alan Christianson’s book — “The Adrenal Reset Diet.” I got this book a year ago. At that time I was dealing greatly with my hypothyroidism. While I was skimming the pages, my mind was becoming so foggy. The contents were so complicated for me to understand. It never impressed me so I just put the book away.
Now I’m better with my hypothyroidism. One day I felt like trying to find some recipes for healing my adrenal. I opened Dr. Christianson’s Adrenal Reset Diet book, and I was surprised to see how informative his book is! I said to myself: “Wow, this book is really good!”
I’m not a cook, so I was looking for something that is easy to prepare.
When I checked the recipes in Dr. Christianson’s book, I found the quick-start menu. The menu shows the basic breakfast recipe with ingredients that are easy to find in my health food store. It also looks really simple and quick to make—and of course, it’s a smoothie. This is really perfect for me because I’m not very good at cooking.
Recipe: Easy Green Smoothie for Healing My Eyesight
The following green smoothie recipe is found in Dr. Alan Christianson’s “The Adrenal Reset Diet” page 83. Yields: 2 servings.
Here’s the ingredients to make this quick green smoothie:
- 2 servings sugar-free, animal- or plant-based protein powder
- 1/4 cup frozen berries (I use ‘Wyman’s of Maine’ wild blueberries)
- 1 cup unsweetened flax milk (I usually use coconut milk)
- 2 tablespoons flax seeds
- 1 small handful frozen spinach (sometimes I use kale)
- 1/4 cup cooked navy beans
- 1/2 tablespoon coconut oil – (suggestion from my acupuncturist)
I blend the ingredients in my Vitamix blender, which is a very good blender for smoothie.
The spinach and blueberries in this green smoothie are good for eyesight.
In his book, there are more breakfast smoothie recipes to try if you are bored of having the same basic smoothie every morning. I have tried them and they are very, very good. I love the ones with almond butter, chocolate/carob pudding, and coffee. I’m not a coffee person, so I use the coffee substitutes.
I told my acupuncturist that I have a smoothie every morning for my breakfast. But I get hungry so quickly (in an hour) even if I consumed the 2 servings. He suggested that I add coconut oil. Now I never get hungry so quickly. I use organic extra-virgin coconut oil.
Breakfast Green Smoothie Substitutions
Dr. Christianson has some suggestions to substitute the ingredients for the green smoothie if you get tired of the basic recipe combination. Here’s his suggestion for substitutions:
- use unsweetened coconut milk or
- almond milk
- pumpkin seeds
- or other greens
In my experience, for a navy beans substitute — I like butter beans. Other beans make me feel like I’m bloating.
For protein powder, I use Great Lakes Gelatin. I tried pea protein powder by NOW but it gives me a bloating feeling too.
After 2 weeks of having this green smoothie, I have no more difficulty of reading my Bible with glasses. The thing that looks like a splash that blocks my vision is gone. The eye floaters are starting to fade. My acupuncturist was so happy to hear about the improvements to my vision.
I believe the acupuncture treatment and the green smoothie have worked synergistically and are good for my eyesight.
